Munchkin Rescue Information: The Munchkin is a fairly new and largely unrecognized breed of cat distinguished by its abnormally short legs. Munchkin advocates describe the cats as being wonderful choices for small homes. Munchkins are bred from a variety of other cat breeds for the specific trait of having short legs. Therefore, the temperaments of these cats vary widely as do their other physical characteristics.
Munchkin Trivia: All Munchkins suffer from a genetic malformation, achondroplasia, which causes their abnormally short legs. All Munchkins are descended from a tomcat named Toulouse. Munchkins are also known as Baby Legs. Munchkins are a controversial breed since they are intentionally bred to have a genetic malformation which can lead to health problems. Munchkins come from a pregnant, short-legged cat found under a trailer in Louisiana in the early eighties.
